J1 League continues the action of the first round of the 2022 season with the game between promoted Kyoto Sanga and recent Super Cup Champions Urawa Red Diamonds.

Kyoto Sanga returns to J1 League after a decade in J2 League. The return prompted a complete overhaul of the team with 12 departes and 14 arrivals. It is yet to see how they have come together during the preseason. But against a solid team like tonight's rival it might no be enough.

Urawa Red Diamonds also saw multiple changes in the squad for this season in which they return to Asia's top competition, the AFC Champions League. Urawa Red Diamonds was able to won the Super Cup to Kawasaki Frontale with a double from Ataru Esaka. Urawa Red Diamonds will be looking to extend it to a strong start in the J1 League.

It was a decade without games between them until last year game in the Emperor's Cup, 0-1 win for Urawa Red Diamonds.

A long overdue return of Kyoto Sanga is faced with a difficult test to start. It is going to be one that will help them measure them. Urawa Red Diamonds win in the Super Cup against last season J1 League Champions puts them as a contender, just need to ratify in the field.
