ACL - Football - Asia - Asian Champions League
AFC Champions League game between Singha Chiangrai United and Melbourne Victory to take place at assim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar, therefore a neutral ground. The race for the second place has been threw wide open with Singha Chiangrai United win against FC Seoul. A revival from the Thai team against a Melbourne Victory that has lost both games played at Qatar.
Almost nothing was expected from Singha Chiangrai United in the second game against FC Seoul, after a 5-0 hammering which meant they had lost all their AFC Champions League group games without even scoring. Their scorer leader Bill was back, but the defensive weakness shown in the previous game was worrysome.
The Thai team produced a huge shock when they overcame the Korean side, but the main take away is their fair defensive performance returned an allowed only one goal against, even stopping a penalty kick. With the victory against FC Seoul, Singha Chiangrai United can still qualify for the next stage but needs to continue winning, this time against Melbourne Victory. The first element is to keep their fair defensive that allows in most games one goal.
The Australian side were beaten for the third consecutive game, Beijing Guoan got the better of them and their form is worrysome having eight defeats in the last nine competitive games. Clearly they are considered the favorites, more when they have already defeated Singha Chiangrai United but that game was back in Australia back in February, and Melbourne Victory goal came via penalty by Ola Toivonen.
Melbourne Victory will be glad to have ended their double header against Beijing Guoan and will be looking to get a positive outcome in this game or they might be without options in the final group game, but the poor defensive display shown against Beijing Guoan is worrysome. The moral boost of having gotten their first AFC Champions League victory, together with the defensive performing better and Bill scoring, provides Singha Chiangrai United with enough arguments for this game and to make things difficult for Melbourne Victory.
