This must be the most ridicolous Outright prizing I have ever seen.
Santoro is a terrific grass player due to his gifted ability of slizing the ball very well, and grass more then any other surface, suits a good slizing game as the ball tends to bounce even lower. It therefor is no coincidence that Santoro has won Newport for consecutive years in 2007 and 2008 with a similar field against him here. Newport is a special grass court, even slower then the English greens and the ball tends to bounce even slower and one can claim that Santoro has mastered this court here.
Now, looking at the field to beat, we have Fish, Querrey, Becker and Mahut prized ahead of Santoro. All of them carry solid form and are proven grass players, but Santoro can beat all of them. I actually think that Dancevic deserves more credit then the two Americans leading the outright prizes.
I can not see a reason why Santoro wouldnt be prized as a favorite here around 3. 5. Instead bookies prized the defending champion at 21, which is by all means a must bet at medium stakes even.
Good Luck
